Why Safety Matters

The Real Problem

Business travel is often associated with flights, hotels, and meeting schedules. But once employees leave home, the company’s responsibility doesn’t end with a confirmed booking.

Unexpected situations such as severe weather, political unrest, medical emergencies, or transportation disruptions can quickly turn a routine business trip into a stressful experience. In those moments, timely communication and visibility become just as important as the itinerary itself.

IHI approached us to design a business travel management platform that would help employees manage their trips while giving organizations better oversight throughout the journey.

As we explored the problem, we realized the product wasn’t simply about organizing travel.

It was about helping companies stay connected with employees and ensuring they could receive support whenever they needed it.

The result was a platform consisting of a mobile app for travelers and a web portal for administrators, designed to make business travel feel safer, more connected, and easier to manage.

Platform Architecture

Two connected experiences working together to keep employees safe throughout every business trip.

The Solutions

Designed for two people with one shared goal.

Travelers need confidence. Managers need visibility.

The platform connects both through two experiences working together in real time.

Employee App

Employees could access their travel itinerary, receive important travel updates, check in throughout their journey, report incidents, and quickly contact the company when assistance was needed. The experience was intentionally simple so that critical actions remained accessible even during stressful situations.

Mobile App

Designed to keep employees connected, informed, and safe throughout every stage of their business journey.

Admin Portal

Travel managers could oversee employee trips, monitor travel status, receive incident reports, and communicate with travelers when disruptions occurred. Having a centralized view of ongoing trips made it easier to respond quickly and coordinate support across multiple destinations.

Trip Dashboard

Keep employees safe with live trip tracking, location visibility, and instant access to critical travel information.

Reflections

This project changed the way I think about enterprise products.

At first glance, it looked like a travel management system. In reality, it was a communication platform built around trust, visibility, and employee wellbeing.

One of my biggest takeaways was that the most valuable product isn’t always the one with the most features. Sometimes, it’s the one that helps people feel supported when everything else becomes uncertain.
